Mt Cotton Training Centre
The Mount Cotton Training Centre is a World Class complex specialising not
only in driver education but also corporate and private events providing the
ultimate driving experience.
Ideally located between Queensland's magnificent Gold Coast and its capital
city Brisbane, Mount Cotton Training Centre is nestled amongst the serene
setting of 48 hectares (110 acres) of natural bushland, devoid of any
distractions. Only a short drive, 30 minutes, from Brisbane's International
and domestic airports or 35 minutes from Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast.
This area consists of approximately 1.7 kilometres of bitumen road, combined
with circuit C the total road area is 3.5 kilometres. The circuit has been
built with the necessary cambers, corners, hairpin bends, multi-lanes and
sweeping curves to enable drivers understand, experience and learn driving
techniques required to safely execute these hazards.
The circuit represents a safe, controlled, simulated training environment
that also offers an undercover viewing platform with whiteboard facilities.
Skid Pan
The Skid Pan, sometimes referred to as the Skid Prevention Area is a purpose
built facility consisting of two areas:
- manoeuvring area for light vehicles
- a figure eight shaped concrete circuit layout which enables individuals
to experience the effects of understeering, oversteering, acceleration and
braking in wet or dry conditions. This facility has a slippery concrete surface
to accentuate the skidding experience.
The Skid Pan has the added comfort of an observation area and amenities block
which serves as an outdoor, under cover classroom and waiting area.
Large Vehicle Manoeuvring Area
The Large Vehicle Manoeuvring Area (LVMA) consists of 2 hectares
(4 acres) of a flat bitumen surface. This area is square in shape and has a
circuit (Circuit C) running around its perimeter. A bubble sprinkling system
has been built into the road to allow for a constant wet surface if required.
The main training uses include:
- heavy vehicle manoeuvring
- evasive reaction training
- control braking (wet and dry)
- skid pan for heavy vehicles
An observation area and amenities block serves as an outdoor, under cover classroom,
viewing and waiting area.
